Bighead Carp

The main origin of the bighead carp which is scientifically known as Hypophthalmichthys nobilis is in the Yangtze and Pearl Rivers in southern China.

Many countries and countries in Asia, Europe, and the United States have been raising this type fish. Warm water breeders in Iran, along with other species of aquaculture, have been breeding this cost effective species in their fish ponds and the reservoirs. Feeding of the bighead is from zooplankton or floating animals and other fish feed supplements and is reared at a very low cost to feed people. Polyculture of bighead fish with other warm water fishes helps maintain the food chain and optimizes the use of organic matter in the water while feeding the species in warm water pools.
